What is CiviCRM?
CiviCRM is an open source (customer) relationship management (CRM) software designed to meet the needs of advocacy, non-profit and non-governmental groups. Simply put, it is a database that centralizes and manages information about people (referred to as contacts, constituents or customers).
Why CiviCRM
Open.Michigan is currently experimenting with using CiviCRM for its information management needs. Open.Michigan is at a point in its development where it must begin considering centralized tools for communications management. CiviCRM was chosen out of several other available CRM solutions because it is a robust system that is both open source and compatible with our upcoming transition into a Drupal platform. It would give Open.Michigan the ability to conduct better evaluations of our engagement activities (including outreach, OER publications, relationships and projects) and easily measure our impact.
