How to license your websites

[edit] Select License

The first step is to make sure you know which license you are going to apply to this work. Information about the various licenses available for these types of works can be found on the Open Content License page.

[edit] Apply License

Now that you've chosen your license, you need to display the license on your presentation so that others can know what terms you have chosen. Let's say U-M faculty member Lisa Wooten selects the Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike License (BY-SA) and wants to add the license to her website. She simply adds the extra information at the bottom of her website. The recommended method of doing this is by using the Creative Commons License Chooser, which will provide the user with HTML code that they can simply copy/paste into their webpage. For example see the bottom of the Open.Michigan homepage.

[edit] More Information

All of the Creative Commons license icons are available to download from the Creative Commons downloads page.
