Preparation for the meeting
- 1. Download materials from CTools (https://open.umich.edu/wiki/index.php5/Importing_Resources_from_CTools )
- 2. If the materials on CTools aren't in their native forms (e.g. a PDF generated from a PowerPoint), email the professor to request them.
- 3. Review the FAQ from previous meetings (https://open.umich.edu/wiki/index.php5/FAQ_from_dScribes)
- 3. Add the materials to the course in OERca (OERca Instructions).
- 4. Extract the context images (e.g. page or PowerPoint images) to OERca (https://open.umich.edu/wiki/index.php5/Content_Capture_Instructions)
- 5. Capture the content objects (COs) and add them to OERca (https://open.umich.edu/wiki/index.php5/Content_Capture_Instructions)
- 6. Analyze the copyright of each object using the RAD tree ([https://open.umich.edu/wiki/images/c/c9/WORKFLOW.pdf])
- 7. Search for replacement objects or recreate content if necessary. (https://open.umich.edu/wiki/index.php5/Open_Content_Search )
- 8. Keep track of how much time you spend on each of these tasks. ([https://open.umich.edu/wiki/images/8/80/Journal_for_dScribes.xls])
- 9. Stop by our office if you have any questions and/or are looking for a dedicated place to work on your dScribe stuff. See our public dScribe calendar on Google for our availability. We're also available via Google Chat (see 10/1 email for our chat ids).
What to bring to the meeting:
- Laptop
- All of the course materials for weeks 1 - 5 on your laptop
- Journal
- Questions
Here is what we will be covering at the meeting:
- 1. Go over high-level dScribe process diagram (5 min)
- 2. Check progress against semester timeline (30 min)
- 3. Items to collect (permission forms, journals) (5 min)
- 4. Questions (content objects, OERca) (30 min)
- 5. Go over adding metadata for original content objects and any replacements as well as using the ASK form to ask a professor if a replacement is suitable (10 min)
- 6. Action Items for next week (5 min)
