[edit] Add Display Logic
Determines if a question will be displayed based on
- How a previous question(s), is answered
- Embedded data (previously gathered user information from a panel)
- Quota
[edit] Carry Forward Choices, Statements, Scale points
All choices, selected responses, text entered in answer fields, or scale points can be carried over from one question to the next.
[edit] Skip Logic
This tool makes it possible for your respondents to skip question(s) that are not relevant to them.
- Skip logic works best for just simple designs where only one skip is needed and questions following the skip are applicable to everyone.
- For more complex designs, Branching and Blocks should be used and arranged using the “Survey Flow” tool
[edit] Implementation
- Select the question whose answer will be used to determine skip logic
- Click the purple icon to the left of the question and select "Skip Logic"
- The dark grey bar that appears below the question has drop down menus where you will specify which conditions will trigger question skipping.
- A page break will automatically be added after this question
[edit] Recode Values
Enables renaming of variables and recoding numerical values
- Assign a value by typing the number in the yellow boxes
- It is always wise to check what current numeric values will be assigned to each choice on a scale
- Sometimes the physical spacing of choices on a scale will result in Qualtrics skipping values (i.e. 1,2,3,6,7,10, 12)
- Rename the variable by typing the name into the pink fields
- Recode numeric labels in the yellow fields
- Changes will be reflected in the data file after downloading data
[edit] Piped Text/Piping (Smart Text)
Carry over a response or written text from a previous question into the text of another question
- Click the Piped Text tab above your question’s text
- Select the desired question/panel field/embedded date/loop and merge field from the drop-down menu
- Specify if a selected choice or entered text response to the question should be used
- A placeholder similar to the text below will be added in your question’s text ${q://QID1/ChoiceGroup/SelectedChoices}
- A PAGE BREAK MUST BE ADDED SOMEWHERE BETWEEN THE QUESTION PIPED FROM AND THE QUESTION PIPED TO
NOTE: Graphics can be piped into a question as well if they are stored as html code. The html code for the desired graphic would be the text inserted. The codes would be stored as embedded data.
[edit] Adding Graphics as Choices
Choices can include graphics by clicking the blue arrow next to the text of a choice. A menu with “Insert Graphic” will appear.
[edit] Choice Randomization
This tool randomizes the order in which the choices appear in a particular question. For question randomization, please refer to the block advanced options. For block randomization, refer to survey flow advanced options.
You have the option to randomize all choices, present only a subset of choices, or further customize the randomization using a dedicated subset and/or random selection of a subset.
